Dark sites are the default for software right now, and most of this collection is software. Deep greys and near-blacks, light type, one accent colour, and photography or UI screenshots that pop against the dark ground. The look signals premium and technical, which is why AI and developer tools use it almost without exception. The sites that do it well — Localcan, Deadwater, Clay Cup — pay attention to two things most dark sites ignore. First, the black isn’t pure. It’s a dark grey with a slight tint, usually toward the accent, so the page has depth rather than reading as a void. Second, the hierarchy is built from tone, not colour. Headings are near-white, body text is a step down, secondary text another step, and the borders are barely there. That takes discipline because the contrast range is smaller than on a light page. Watch the type. Thin weights vibrate on dark backgrounds, so most of these sites run a medium weight for body copy. Watch the imagery, too — screenshots need a dark UI or a border, or they glow. See dark landing pages, dark AI sites, dark software sites and dark design sites, or the black colour collection for sites where black is a brand choice rather than a theme.
